KRUM TRACK BRINGS HOME TWO BRONZE MEDALS FROM AUSTIN
KHS Sends Four and an Alternate to State Track Meet
Krum track team members traveled to Austin on May 11 to compete in the UIL state track meet. Julia Schmaltz and Sydney Shelstead both finished third in their events and took home bronze medals.
Schmaltz finished third in the high jump with 5-5 jump, while Shelstead took third in the discus with a throw of 125 feet, 4 inches.
KRUM ISD SAYS NO TO BULLYING Online Resources and Reporting Now Available
The topic of bullying has made recent headlines as tragic events and calls to action by several celebrities have brought the important issue into the national spotlight. Bullying is a problem that affects students every day. Krum ISD campus and district administrators are working together to provide a safe learning environment for our students and have provided online resources to learn more about what you can do to stop bullying in our schools.
District 9-AA All-District selections for softball have been released, with several Lady Cats making the list. Eighth KHS athletes were listed among the first team, second team, and honorable mention picks.
KRUM SENIOR ADVANCES TO UIL ACADEMIC STATE CONTEST
Katie Smith to Represent KHS in Austin Later This Month
Katie Smith, a senior at Krum High School, will advance to the state UIL competition in Computer Applications after taking third in the event at the Region II contest, held last month at Tarleton State University. Smith advanced from district to region in both computer applications and accounting after placing first and third, respectively, at the Conference 2A District 9 meet in March.

Fifth-Graders Prepare for STAAR with Science Boot Camp
The halls of Dodd Intermediate were transformed once again into science labs and experiment rooms as students participated in the annual “Einstein Boot Camp.” Part of a two-week intensive program for Dodd fifth-graders, the camp is a unique way to review important material before students begin their rigorous spring testing regimen. Through various classroom activities, students and teachers become science experts in the areas of life science, earth science, and more.

Danielle Drews Recognized for Excellent Short Stories
Prospective writers often work for decades seeking publication, hoping to one day gain recognition from their readers and peers. Krum Middle School student Danielle Drews needed only to wait until the eighth-grade to earn such acclaim. The 46th Annual Creative Writing Awards, sponsored by North Central Texas College in Gainesville, has named Danielle the first-place winner of the Jerry Simpson Memorial Short Story Contest.
In the musical world, everyone knows that fall is for football and marching. As we build a marching band program, the Krum community will experience great music and field shows. However, spring is for concert band music and Krum ISD has a long-standing tradition of excellence in this area. In the KMS band program, we have four performing groups: Beginner Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.
