The spring stock show season is in full swing and FFA members started it off with a bang with a great showing at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition. The first week of the Ft. Worth Stock Show found members competing in the breeding shows. During the Breeding Sheep Show Coy Harris won Grand Champion Hampshire Ewe, Grand Champion Suffolk Ewe, Reserve Champion Hampshire Ewe and Reserve Champion Suffolk Ram. FFA members also participated in the Jr. Breeding Heifer where Taylor Schertz exhibited her Limousin heifer to 2nd place honors in the Texas Jr. Limousin Shootout and 3rd place in the Jr. heifer show. Also exhibiting heifers were Hadley Brooks, Levi Nelson, Luke Nelson and Skylor Schertz. Hadley Brooks also serves as the Texas Santa Gertrudis Association Princess. During the market lamb show Krum FFA members Austin North exhibited a 5th place Southdown, Jasmine Schneider finished 5th with her Medium Wool , and Bryan Muckensturm 12th with his Medium Wool. Also exhibiting market lambs was Jayce Bolin, Jaimie Jones, Caitlyn Muckensturm, Kiley Jo Noday, Kohl Patton, Jacob Schneider, Evan Sylvester, and Ross Sylvester.
The show rounded off with members exhibiting in the Jr. Market Steer Show where there was a total of 1380 entries this year. Krum FFA placed three steers in the top ten and qualified for the premium sale. Brooks Burton exhibited his light-weight Angus steer to third place honors, Stratton Schertz exhibited her Shorthorn steer to 8th place, and Payton Schertz exhibited her American Breed steer to 6th place honors. Congratulations to these exhibitors! In addition, Jacie Thompson exhibited her Hereford steer to 11th place and Taylor Schertz exhibited her European Crossbred Steer to 12th place. Steer exhibitors also included Morgan Johnson, Brady Labrum, Megan Labrum, Randie Kay Newton, Channing Pieniazek, Garrison Pieniazek, Sterling Pieniazek, and Skylor Schertz.
Another highlight of the Ft. Worth Livestock Show was Lexi Carroll being awarded a $1,000 Scholarship sponsored by Hillwood Land and Cattle and the Southwestern Livestock Exposition Commercial Heifer Sale. Lexi plans to use her scholarship to attend San Angelo State University next fall. Congratulations Lexi!
FFA members also competed in the Jr. Goat judging, Jr. Horse Judging and Jr. Meats Judging contests. The Goat Judging team of Hannah Dast, Coy Harris, Jaimie Jones, and Ross Sylvester finished 8th. The Meats judging team of Gage Guffy, Paige Orsi, Sterling Pieniazek, Payton Schertz, Taylor Schertz and Abby Wimmer finished 11th with Sterling Pieniazek being the 6th high individual in the contest. The Horse Judging team finished 23rd and 26th with team members Ashley Coffey, Coy Harris, Nicole Pearson, Morgan Johnson, Morgan Pedroso, Claire Shelton, and Skylor Schertz.
