Small Town, Big Hearts

December 13, 2019

Last holiday season, the Third Grade Safety Patrol at Hattie Dyer Elementary decided they wanted to do something for their community. They knew that some children in the Krum community were less fortunate than them, and they set out to make a difference in their Christmas by launching a toy drive. Local businesses heard about the efforts of these young leaders and lent a helping hand to collect toy donations for the families in Krum that needed them most.

This year, the Safety Patrol Team wanted to do it again-but they wanted to help even more families. Our small town of Krum heard their request again this year. Countless community members donated toys to our Dyer campus, in addition to our business partners: Spencer’s Automotive Repair, Krum Farm & Feed, Tudy’s Tacos, Krum Veterinary Hospital, Krum Dental, C & G Electric, Joy Grace & Co., and Krum Clips Salon.

On Friday, December 13, these local businesses showed up at Dyer with trucks full of toys for children of every age in Krum. The Safety Patrol helped unload over 520 toys into their school that morning. Dyer Principal Lindsey Boone, Assistant Principal Macy Faught, and Counselor Nadalee Daves will coordinate the gifts based on the interests and likes of the children these toys will go to. Once all needs they know of are met, the remaining toys will be assessed and a secret porch drop will take place if possible. With so many families not wanting to reach out for help in order to hold on to their pride, a secret porch drop will enable the toy drive to support them this holiday season.

Krum ISD would like to thank the Third Grade Safety Patrol, teachers, and staff at Hattie Dyer Elementary, Spencer’s Automotive Repair, Krum Farm & Feed, Tudy’s Tacos, Krum Veterinary Hospital, Krum Dental, C & G Electric, Joy Grace & Co., Krum Clips Salon and the entire Krum community for their compassion and support in making this drive such a success.
