Krum ISD Will Remain Closed from March 16-22

March 13, 2020

Dear Krum ISD Families:

Our administration team has been monitoring the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) with the primary focus on the health and well-being of our students and staff.  Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19  in Denton County, in an abundance of caution, Krum ISD along with most neighboring school districts will close all schools and facilities next week. Beginning Monday, March 16th until Sunday, March 22nd, all Krum ISD schools and facilities (including all athletic facilities) will be closed. March 23rd will remain a staff development day at this time.

During this school closure, all campuses and the administration building will be closed. All district events, practices, and competitions are postponed.

Prior to reopening, we will assess the current climate and provide updates to everyone in the district. We have made this decision after consulting with area health officials and area school superintendents. Although this decision was not mandated by local or state agencies, we believe this was the best course of action to minimize health risks to our community. By closing school, we hope to help flatten the curve of the pandemic as well as increase and allow more social distancing. We will also take this time to ensure that all facilities undergo a deep cleaning and disinfecting process.

Denton County Judge Andy Eads stated in a letter to school officials that “Denton County is in support of schools adopting social distancing strategies. Pausing classroom teaching is an effective way to manage local transmissions in communities. Delaying classroom instruction can allow students and families time to access healthcare if they are symptomatic.” Additionally, “delaying the return to school allows individuals time to self-monitor for symptoms, going to the doctor if sick, and quarantining and isolating as necessary.” His complete letter is attached.

Per health officials, families that have traveled to certain countries are recommended to self-quarantine. The complete information for high-risk countries that are recommended to self-quarantine can be located on the CDC website.

Our administration team will continue to communicate with local and state agencies and will update families during this closure. We will reevaluate the situation next Wednesday, March 18th, and will issue further communications later that day. This information will be disseminated to all parents, guardians, and staff members via the School Messenger Communication Platform, in addition to the district website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Krum ISD is researching distance-learning options as well as options to provide meals if we are closed for an extended period of time.

We are urging students, staff, and families to stay calm and follow all recommended guidelines to stay healthy.

Thank you,

Krum ISD
