Annual Toy Drive to Bring a Wonderful Holiday Season to Krum Kids

In 2018, the Third Grade Safety Patrol at Hattie Dyer Elementary decided they wanted to do something for their community. They knew that some children in the Krum community were less fortunate than them, and they set out to make a difference in their Christmas by launching a toy drive. This toy drive has quickly become a tradition that our small town rallies behind in order to make a difference in the holidays of Krum families that need them the most.

As with many other things, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on many families. The staff and students at Dyer knew there would likely be more families this year that needed their help, and the Krum community rallied together to help these families in need.

Countless community members donated toys to the Dyer campus, in addition to our business partners: Spencer’s Automotive Repair, Joy Grace & Co., Tudy's Tacos, Krum Veterinary Hospital, Krum Dental Associates, C & G Electric, Ferguson Electric, Krum Massage, and Krum Clips Salon.

On Friday, December 10, these local businesses showed up at Dyer with trucks full of toys for children of every age in Krum. The Safety Patrol helped unload over 800 toys into their school that morning- the most toys ever collected in the toy drive!

The Dyer National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) also held a fundraiser selling lollipops to raise money to purchase toys for the drive. With the addition of these monetary donations, Dyer Principal Lindsey Boone expects this year’s toy drive to produce over 1,000 toys for Krum children of all ages.

Principal Boone, Assistant Principal Macy Faught, and Counselor Kim Carns will coordinate the gifts based on the interests and likes of the children these toys will go to. Once all needs they know of are met, the remaining toys will be assessed, and a secret porch drop will take place if possible. With so many families not wanting to reach out for help, a secret porch drop will enable the toy drive to support them this holiday season.

Krum ISD would like to thank the Third Grade Safety Patrol, teachers, and staff at Hattie Dyer Elementary, Spencer’s Automotive Repair, Joy Grace & Co., Tudy's Tacos, Krum Veterinary Hospital, Krum Dental Associates, C & G Electric, Ferguson Electric, Krum Massage, Krum Clips Salon, and the entire Krum community for their compassion and support in making this drive such a success.
