I’m sure many of you are aware of the immense challenges education is experiencing when it comes to staffing. One area that is significantly affected is transportation. Krum has always done a good job providing transportation to our students. In most districts, transportation services are usually available to all students who live 2 miles or more away from their home campus, or to students within that radius who live along a path that has been deemed “hazardous crossing” by TEA.. Currently, Krum ISD Transportation services around 700 students within 13 unique bus routes. 389 of those students live within the 2 mile limits. They are what we call “courtesy” riders. For this school year, we have enough staff to handle our current growth but we will not be able to expand our “courtesy riders” beyond what we are currently offering.
We are not proposing to stop our current practice but with limited drivers Krum ISD will not be able to increase service within the 2 mile attendance zone. This means that students who have been riding Krum ISD buses as courtesy riders may continue to do so, but we will not be able to expand these services to new developments that open within our 2 mile radius.
If you would like to help Krum ISD provide transportation for students, please apply to be a bus driver! Applications can be found online here.
Additionally, due to the increases in student enrollment and bus riders, several bus routes have changed for the upcoming school year. We will make every attempt to notify affected riders individually, but below are the affected routes. Please reach out to the Krum ISD Transportation Department at (940) 435-7846 if you have any questions.
Current routes that will see changes:
- “Cow” route (Breezy Acres & Plainsview)
- “Monkey” route (Pruett Rd & Big Valley)
- “Zebra” route (Midway Ridge & George Foster)
Thank you,
Dr. Jason Cochran
