Communications and Public Relations

Krum ISD uses ParentSquare to communicate with parents, guardians and students.  This powerful platform teachers and administrators to connect with parents and guardians in a secure and consistent way.  Users receive communications based on their own preferences and can edit those preferences at any time. 

ParentSquare is used to send newsletters, announcements, email, and emergency alerts.

Krum ISD follows a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which includes procedures for a wide variety of emergencies. The safety and wellbeing of students and staff is Krum ISD’s top priority.  The district’s first response will always be to the immediate emergency. After ensuring the safety of our students, the next priority will be communicating with parents and guardians. The most accurate and up-to-date information will be pushed to parents and guardians as soon as the situation allows.

Emergency notifications/alerts are sent through ParentSquare as a phone call, text message and email.  Depending on the situation, these messages may direct you to the district website or social media for additional information.

The District Superintendent, Dr. Jason Cochran, is the official spokesperson in any crisis situation affecting the district or an individual campus and will be responsible for all communication with the news media. 

Krum ISD considers the safety of students and employees across the district when making decisions about the school day. Administrators closely monitor weather predictions, consult with neighboring districts, and our transportation director in order to make the best decision possible with the information available. 

If for any reason Krum ISD must close school buildings or delay the start of school due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances (e.g. a power outage), parents and guardians will receive an ALERT through ParentSquare. Alerts are sent as a phone call, text message and/or email, depending on how you have set your communication preferences in ParentSquare.

A website announcement will also be set to pop up when you visit Krumisd.net, and the information will be posted on the district's Facebook page.

Krum ISD will only inform families of delayed opening times or school cancellations. If NO information is provided from the district, our school buildings will be open to students and staff at their regularly scheduled times.

School closing information may also be found on the following news channels, these announcements are often delayed due to the large number of school districts in the area:

Krum ISD is committed to recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of our students and staff.  Recognition at School Board meetings will be determined by the following criteria: 

• Students who demonstrate academic, artistic, leadership, service, or extracurricular excellence are eligible for recognition at board meetings if they meet the following qualifications:
  • First, second, or third-place regional, state, national, and/or international awards
  • Qualifiers for state/national school-sanctioned competitions
  • Perfect score on state or national assessments
  • District-level contest winners
• The campus teacher, coach, sponsor, principal, or a district-level coordinator must initiate the request for student recognition by emailing communications@krumisd.net
• Requests should be submitted within ten (10) days of the student earning the recognition. 
• Within ten (10) days of receiving the request, the Krum ISD PIO will notify the initiator of the date of the Board meeting at which the recognition will occur. School Board meetings are typically held the second Wednesday of each month.
• There will be no scholar recognition during the months of summer break.
• An invitation letter will be sent directly to the student being recognized and their parent/guardian, with a courtesy copy to the initiator of the request.  The letter will contain RSVP directions for the students and/or parents regarding attendance plans. Notification of attendance is encouraged to know if those being recognized will be present.

In accordance with the Texas Public Information Act, records/documents on file with the Krum Independent School District are available to the general public upon request. The Act does not require the district to create new records/documents, to do legal research, or to answer questions. Therefore, only records/documents currently in existence are subject to the Act. Requests for existing public records/documents may be submitted by mail or electronically. Please be specific in your request regarding exact dates, names, and time periods.
