About the KALC
All students are capable of learning and should have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential. In order for students to be successful, a safe, systematic, and supportive learning environment is essential. Krum ISD recognizes that there are certain occasions when students will be best served in an alternative learning environment in order to provide an orderly and structured setting that focuses on academics as well as social and emotional learning.
The Krum Alternative Learning Center (KALC) is a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) which is an independent campus for students are not benefiting from their current program on their home campuses due to repeated or severe disruptive behaviors and/or violations of the KISD Student Code of Conduct or reasons defined in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code. Students are removed from their home campuses and placed in DAEP for a designated period of time.
The goals of the Krum Alternative Learning Center (KALC) include the following:
- Provide a safe, secure environment for students that is conducive to learning
- Promote academic success
- Modify behavior to be successful in an academic environment
- Provide goal setting, conflict resolution guidance, relationship building, support for better decision making, and academic planning
- Successful transition back to the student’s home campus (Krum High School or Krum Middle School.
